The Autocarrier feeds film at an impressive rate of up to three frames per second, allowing a full 35mm roll to be scanned in 12 seconds. Your camera is automatically triggered for each frame. During image capture, a full-frame BOBACH pressure mask – the same technology trusted in professional Fuji Frontier scanners – presses each frame down, holding it securely in place. This ensures absolute flatness for optimal sharpness in every shot. Our custom frame sensor intelligently detects and positions each 35mm frame with pinpoint accuracy, guaranteeing consistent, perfect alignment across every scan. Twenty full spectrum LEDs (5000K, CRI>95) ensure perfect color accuracy and an even illumination of the full frame. The brightness of the LEDs is fixed in a way to allow capture at medium aperture and low ISO.
Combined with Filmomat’s SmartConvert software and the SmartConvert Control Panel, this system replicates the capabilities of a professional lab scanner.
Description of the operation modes:
- Manual mode: Manually advance the film using the hand wheel and release the camera.
- Auto mode: Just insert the film, and the Autocarrier automatically advances the film, positions the frames and releases the camera. Works best with well exposed negatives.
- Semi mode: After positioning the first two frames manually, the Autocarrier will save the frame distance. After each press of the camera release button, the Carrier will advance the film by the measured distance. This mode is ideal for slide film or underexposed film where automatic mode does not work properly.
Delivery contents:

The Demo Image is shot on Ektar 100. Scanned with the Autocarrier, Nikon Z7 and Nikkor Z MC 50mm F2,8. Converted with SmartConvert.
*not all cameras are capable of shooting at 3fps framerate. Automatic frame detection works best with well exposed frames.
What is “IR-Ready”?
The IR-Ready Autocarrier includes a built-in infrared (IR) light source. In IR light, color film appears transparent - only dust particles remain visible. This IR dust image can be processed in SmartConvert to automatically and precisely remove dust from the final scan. The IR Autocarrier comes with a special version of SmartConvert which can process the IR data.
A switch on the back of the device lets you toggle between standard and IR modes. In IR mode, the Autocarrier captures two exposures per frame: one in visible light, and one in infrared.
IMPORTANT:
IR scanning requires a special camera sensitive to the infrared spectrum, and a lens which performs well in the IR-range. Standard digital cameras do not work - they block IR light completely. Please read the guide on my website for more details and the necessary equipment before ordering: https://www.filmomat.eu/ir-dust-removal
All „Standard“ Carriers can be upgraded to IR at a later time.
